Noah is 6 weeks tomorrow. He's a happy growing boy. On Monday when we went to class and weighed Noah, he was 10 pounds. So in six weeks, Noah has gained three whole pounds. Noah's filling out. He has grown a milk belly and a cute double chin. Mommy's favorite features are his squeezable chubby cheeks and beautiful blue eyes.

Noah will hold his head up on his own when we're holding him. He can't yet hold his head up very long when lying on his tummy, but he's been practicing every day.

Mom and Dad are looking forward to Noah's first smile. Noah smiles in his sleep and there have been a couple of occasions when Noah's mouth has formed a smile while we've been talking to him, but we're not sure yet whether it was really a social smile. Today Noah smiled at Mommy while she was singing and talking to him. We're waiting for a repeat smile for Daddy before we're sure it was really a social smile.

Noah is beginning to understand the difference between days and nights. Lately he has been taking shorter naps during the day and has been sleeping up to 4 hours straight at night. This has been very helpful for Mom because she has been a bit bleary eyed since his birth. Now when we get 4 hours of sleep we feel very refreshed. This is something that his parents could never have imagined before he was born.
We experienced our first blow out this week, quickly followed by his second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. In fact, last weekend we had three blowouts in a row. Each time we had to change him into a new outfit. By the end of the day we had to do laundry and give Noah a bath.
Noah was diagnosed with GERD (reflux) and is now on medication. This has been very helpful for all of us because Noah is feeling much better on the ranitidine. The reflux had been making Noah very fussy and he strongly objected to being placed on his back. Because of this, Mom or Dad had to hold Noah upright for at least half an hour after he ate and we had to do short frequent feedings. Feeding Noah about every hour and then holding him upright for half an hour pretty much took up the entire day and left little time for anything else (including playtime). The medication helps to neutralize the acid in his stomach, so the reflux doesn't hurt him now. It's a trade off though, Noah really does not like taking the medication. We think it's peppermint flavored (at least that's how it smells), but Noah doesn't seem to like the taste. He spits out as much as he can and when he sees the medication coming toward him he turns his head from side to side. Eventually we think he won't object as much, but in the mean time it's an adventure each time we have to give him a dose.
So all in all... things are going very well. Noah is beautiful and growing quickly. We're taking plenty of photographs because we don't want to forget anything.
