First Smile

We celebrated Noah's first official smile on Thursday, January 15th. This was Noah's first social smile for both Mom and Dad. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Mom was pretty sure she got a couple social smiles out of him but he wasn't willing to repeat it for Dad so we decided not to count them because we weren't completely sure.

Other Firsts:

1/22 - Noah Slept through the night (6 hours)

1/28 - Noah Started Cooing when happy

1/31 - First time Mom noticed Noah laughing in his sleep

1/31 - First time Noah put his hands on the bottle while eating. He's a long way from holding the bottle himself, but he's got the right idea.

2/8 - Noah's first reaction to playing Peek-a-Boo. Gives mom a big smile when she reappears from behind the blanket.

Sleeping Through the Night

Last Wednesday night was a rough night. Noah was up from 3am to 6am. Mom found herself (VERY TIRED) rocking Noah through the wee hours of the morning, hoping he might again doze off. However, Noah slept through the night for the first time on Thursday night (1/22/09). He slept from midnight to 6am. Boy was that a surprise for his Mom. Dad doesn't even notice when Mom and Noah get up to nurse and change diapers in the night anymore so it wasn't until he got up for the morning that he was able to join in the excitement.

Although Noah has been sleeping longer during the night, Mom still has to get up to pump but even so she's getting more sleep because she doesn't have to nurse Noah and rock him back to sleep.

Since last Thursday, Noah slept for 5 hours straight on Friday night and 6 hours straight again on Saturday night. We're tried not to get our hopes up too high, but were cautiously optimistic that this trend was signaling a change in Noah's sleeping pattern. Each night is another adventure.

This week, Noah is back to sleeping only 4 hours during the first part of the night and then 1 or 2 hour chunks of time after that. We're hoping that Noah settles into sleeping longer at night during the next few weeks before Mom has to go back to work.
