Noah's 6 Months Old!

Noah turned 6-months old on Wednesday. To celebrate we took him to the pediatrician and to the photographer. Both Eric and I took the day off and enjoyed a nice day with our little NoahMan. Noah did very well at the doctor. He showed off how he can sit on his own. He tried to showed her his roll-over on the exam table. And best of all, he demonstrated how well his plumbing works when we turned on his fountain as she checked his hip joints. We could tell his pediatrician is very experienced with little boys because she managed to get out of the way and cover him all at the same time. The table got watered, but that was about all. Whew!

Now to the stats...
Weight: 15lbs 9oz (17th percentile)
Length: 26 inches (35th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17.01 inches (35th percentile)
Weight for Length: 25th percentile

At the end of the visit, Noah received three immunizations (1 oral and 2 injections). This time Daddy had the pleasure of comforting Noah during his shots and Mommy got a break (though I was still in the room). Noah did better with his shots this time that during the previous visits. He cried for only a couple of minutes then calmed back down. The shots seemed much more minor to him this time. He was more upset when we had to put his clothes back on than any other time during the visit. Noah made his presence known as we put back on his onesie and outfit. He was definitely letting us know that he preferred not to be dressed at that point in time. I think he would have rather been packed back into his car-seat naked with a bunch of blankets covering him.

Wednesday afternoon, we took Noah to the photographer for his 6-month portraits. We went to the same studio as we used for his 3-months portraits. After Noah was born, the photographer sent us an advertisement for a free 4-panel mat and free sittings at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. If we attend all four sittings, we get the mat with one portrait from each sitting for free. This is a great deal, but of course we get suckered into buying other portraits when we choose the one for the mat. Despite the fact that we're having a professional take Noah's portraits, I am also trying to shoot his periodic portraits too. I'm working on developing my portfolio so that I can start my photography business pretty soon.

Noah's pediatrician gave him the go-ahead to start eating solids. We had started rice cereal a couple of weeks ago because he seemed hungry every 2 hours and the milk didn't seem to be enough anymore. Since he prefers his cereal thick like oatmeal, his physician said he was ready to start other solids. We're very excited about this milestone because it means that Mom can try out the baby food recipes and rocket (food processor like the magic bullet) she's been looking forward to using.

I've decided I will try to make a lot of Noah's baby food because it's so darn expensive to buy the pre-made stuff and because when we opened the jar or peas for him last night they just didn't smell as good to me as I thought they could. Yep that's right, Noah's first meal of solids was peas. Yum! Last night, he wasn't quite sure what he thought of peas. He ate half a jar, but he did so with quite the look on his face. (We took a video but it still needs processing so it will be a bit before I get it posted. I'll try to post the peas and the cereal videos at the same time.) Tonight, peas seemed to have grown on Noah. He appeared much happier with the taste tonight than last night. On the pediatrician's recommendation we'll advance to a new food each week. Next up will be carrots or sweet potatoes as these are the other jarred foods we're purchased. (Unless, of course, Mom gets all jazzed up to make something else.)

We've got quite the busy weekend planned. Mom and Noah will be garage sailing with Grandma and friend Juliet tomorrow morning. Then we'll head over to Eagan to celebrate Cousin Dieu's 2nd birthday. Saturday night, all three of us will attend a wedding reception (provided Noah doesn't have a melt-down). Sunday I have soccer but it will probably be too cold and rainy for Eric and Noah to watch me play. And either Sunday morning or evening, I hope to take my own 6-month photos of Noah and us as a family. We're also going to try to continue working on Noah's sleeping. Whew, I'm tired just thinking about it. Well we'll make it through and hopefully be a little more rested by Monday.

Cheers to all!
