Last weekend we went out to Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove. They have a sand bottom pool there with filtered water. It's smaller than the sand bottom pool in Shokapee, but it was also less crowded. We stuffed Noah into his swimming suit fitted with floats. The swimsuit is still a little big so Noah wasn't able to sit with the suit on. We headed out into the water, carrying the baby. The sand was very hot, but the water was nice and cool. Noah enjoyed walking around in knee-deep water and watching his friends Josh and Ben play with their parents. After only about 10-15 minutes, the lifeguards called a safety break. We snacked on some fruit and waited to get back in the pool. Unfortunately, the next two times we took Noah into the water he wasn't very excited about it. As soon as his feet touched the water he began to scream. We attributed it to the fact that we had taken off his big swimsuit and he may have been a bit cold. Noah also took only an abbreviated nap and was probably too tired.
Yesterday, we got Noah a kiddie pool for our backyard. It's a small blue pool about 45 inches around. We filled it with frigid water from the hose and sat it in the sun hoping it would warm up. Unfortunately our backyard is very shady and as the sun moved, shade fell on the pool and the water stayed very cold. Eric had to run pitchers of hot water out from the kitchen sink to warm the water before we could let Noah swim. Once the water was the right temperature, we threw a bunch of Noah's bath letters and rubber duckies into the pool and Noah splashed and played for a good hour. Eric and I sat cooling ourselves with our feet in the pool. Since the pool is so small, we couldn't really fit all three of us in there. The kiddie pool was a great success. We'll have a lot of fun with it this summer.
